Carsharing in Poland: how it works, what it costs, when it pays off
Carsharing means renting a car by the minute or hour through an app, without visiting an office or signing a paper contract. We explain how it works, how to calculate the cost of a trip and when it pays off.
01How carsharing works
You create an account in the app, add your driving licence (prawo jazdy), an ID document and a payment card, and once you are verified you can drive. You find a car on the map, unlock it with your phone and after the trip leave it within the service's operating zone. Fuel or charging and insurance are usually included in the price.
Our database includes Traficar and Bolt Drive offers. Traficar operates in several large cities and also has vans; Bolt Drive operates in Warsaw. You will find the current cities and rates in the Carsharing category.
02How to calculate the cost of a trip
The fee usually has two parts: one for time (minutes or hours) and one for each kilometre driven. There may also be a minimum fare per trip. Example: a 20-minute trip covering 8 km at 0.30 zł/min and 1 zł/km costs 6 zł + 8 zł = 14 zł.
Some services have daily packages, which work out clearly cheaper than the hourly rate for a full day of driving. Check them if you are planning a longer trip.

03When carsharing pays off
Carsharing is cheapest for short trips around town, when you do not want to keep your own car and look for a parking space near home. Small vans by the hour come in handy for moving a piece of furniture or bringing purchases home from a DIY store.
For a full day of driving or a long trip out of town, a rental company with a daily price usually works out cheaper: compare both options in the Carsharing and Daily rental categories.
04What to watch out for
- before driving, walk around the car and report any damage or mess in the app, taking photos
- end your trip only within the service zone, outside it you will pay an extra fee
- check the rules for parking in a paid parking zone (strefa płatnego parkowania) and in private car parks
- fines and damage costs will be charged to your account, sometimes with a handling fee
- check the required time holding a licence and whether the service accepts a foreign driving licence
